COLD OPEN

Seven times the vitamin C of oranges.

Twenty-five times the iron of spinach.

Four times the calcium of milk. Twice the protein of yogurt.

Name the plant. You cannot. Because you were never supposed to find it.

ACT ONE — THE TREE

Moringa oleifera. Called the Tree of Life in every culture that found it.

It grows in drought. It grows in poor soil. It grows where nothing else will.

The leaves contain all nine essential amino acids. A complete protein. From a leaf.

A single tree that could solve malnutrition in every country where children go hungry. And the West has barely heard of it.

ACT TWO — THE BURIAL

The World Health Organization studied moringa extensively. Their findings were unambiguous.

And yet. Walk into any American grocery store. Find the moringa section. You will not. Because there is none.

Vitamin supplements are a sixty-four billion dollar industry in the United States. Moringa costs pennies to grow.

You cannot build a sixty-four billion dollar industry if the answer grows on a tree in your backyard.

ACT THREE — THE TREE GROWS

But you cannot bury a tree forever. Moringa is spreading. Quietly. Despite everything.

Community gardens in Haiti. School lunch programs in India. Backyard growers in Texas and Florida.

CLOSING

They buried the most nutritious tree on the planet under sixty-four billion dollars of synthetic alternatives.

The Tree of Life does not need a patent. It does not need FDA approval. It just needs soil and sunlight and someone who gives a damn.
